Fancy a tasty homemade brunch treat this weekend but tired of all those avocado & egg on toast instagrams and snaps? Well you’ve come to the right place!
I may be one of the few abnormal humans to say this, but I really don’t like eggs or avocados. Yes you can pick your jaw up from the floor now.
Before you say “but french toast has egg in it”, I don’t mind eggs if they are in things like cakes but eating them on their own, no thank you.
Brunch has become something that is not only ‘on trend’, it is a perfect lazy morning thing to do with your special someone, your bestie or the whole family. If your like me you may love cooking it yourself, yes that means cleaning up afterwards but what’s better than spending a lazy Sunday with brunch, Netflix and a cosy blanket?
My go to homemade brunch used to be plain or blueberry pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, but recently french toast is my number one. For me french toast combines breakfast/brunch with a sweet treat, but adding fruit makes it an healthy option right? Lets just nod our heads in agreement.
What’s more it is super easy to make with only 3-4 ingredients depending how naughty you feel. For two people my ingredient list is as follows:
– 2 free range eggs.
– a splash of milk (I use Alpro Soya Light. Add more if you don’t like your french toast too eggy).
– Cinnamon (as much as you like).
– sugar (I use caster sugar as the grains are very fine).
– optional: fruit, maple syrup, honey.
All that is required is whisking the eggs, milk and cinnamon together in a bowl big enough to soak your slices of bread. After they are soaked add them to a greased frying panned allow to cook. When they are done to your satisfaction you may wish to cut the bread and place onto a plate, but before doing this I tend to sprinkle a little sugar on top. As an option you can add your choice of fruit – I love adding berries, especially strawberries!
If you have any brunch recommendations or if you have any of your own french toast recipes let me know in the comments or tweet me 🙂
* Update: I’ve created a series The Brunch Edit which is a compilation of brunch ideas and recipes that you can make fairly easily at home.
