I’m at a happy place with my skin at the moment and I’m pretty sure it’s to do with my skincare routine – that and the fact that I’ve been drinking a lot more water again. Yes to keeping hydrated!
As I mentioned in my minimal skincare routine I‘ve cut down on the amount of products I use in my skincare routine after my skin had a bad six – nine months. However, my evening skincare routine hasn’t really changed much, but the products I use have. Just in case you don’t, I have combination to oily skin, but all of these products are great if you a have dry-normal skin type.
I love using a serum in the evening, especially one with anti-ageing properties because I’m a firm believer that starting using anti-ageing products in your twenties will be beneficial as you get older. Especially with an eye cream, as eyes are one of the first areas that you notice the first signs of ageing (so are your hands!).
On a side note, how annoying is it that there are two spellings of ageing? Apparently ‘ageing’ is the UK way of writing it and ‘aging’ is the US version… Why? Just why?
Moving right back onto my evening skincare routine…
When I was in duty free before heading to Japan I purchased the exclusive travel duo Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair and Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye. If you didn’t know the serum comes in this handy duo, plus a bigger size, in duty free so you’ll get more for your money! I’d definitely recommend that if you’re a fan of this product, make sure you pick it up in duty free or ask a friend or a member of your family to pick one up for you.
The serum is a dream. You only need a few drops on your finger tips and then gentle massage it into your skin – I’d also recommend that you gently pat it into your skin as well. Not only does it sink into the skin super quickly, it gives my skin an instant boost. I’m not sure how to describe it, it’s like when you’re really thirsty and you finally have a sip of water and you instantly feel calmer, that’s the same feeling I get with this serum. Another thing I’ve noticed over the past five months of using it, is that my skin doesn’t look as dull. I don’t even know if that’s supposed to be a benefit of the product, but whatever is in it my skin loves it!
Eye creams are the biggest pain for me to purchase. I’ve tried a fair handful and I’m genuinely impressed by Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye. Bare in mind that this is only a nighttime eye cream (although you could probably still use it during the day), the first week I used this – while I was in Japan and not using any other new products – I noticed my dark circles steadily diminishing. Now I don’t know if that was solely because of this product, or if I was just more relaxed so therefore felt happier and slept better, but whatever it was it happened in conjunction with using this eye cream. So I think I can give it a hefty amount of credit.
My skin has never really liked night creams, maybe it’s because most are quite thick and heavy – which is not usually a good mix for oily/combo skin. However, I still want something that gives my skin hydration overnight. So instead I tend to use night moisturisers that act like / are overnight masks, which brings me to my ultimate favourite The Body Shop Drops of Youth Sleeping Mask. I love love LOVE this mask.
This mask has a very unique consistency, feeling like a gel-cream and acting like the Illamasqua Hydra Veil in the way that it goes back to its original form after you’ve taken the amount that you want. After applying it takes a while to sink into my skin – not sure if this is because I tend to lather this on my face to give it a giant boost of hydration, or that it usually takes longer due to its consistency. But I don’t mind this seen as it’s a nighttime product. When it does sink in it feels super hydrating without making my skin more oily then it already is – massive bonus! In the morning my skin feels and looks plumper and refreshed, and feels super soft. I don’t think I need to say anymore, it’s just amazing.
Another overnight mask I’ve been loving for those evenings where I don’t want as much hydration, is the Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask. Unlike the The Body Shop Drops of Youth Sleeping Mask this one sinks into the skin very quickly and acts more like a normal moisturiser with amazing black tea benefits that help to improve your skins elasticity, and generally makes your skin look healthier.
There you have it, my go-to evening skincare essentials. Have you tried any of these, or do you have any skincare products that you would highly recommend? I’d love to know!
